Volunteers and city staff collaborate to restore iconic skeletons and enhance festive displays |
In early September, as the summer heat lingers, Conway, South Carolina, begins its remarkable transformation into the "City of Halloween."
Central to this metamorphosis are the towering 15-foot skeletons that have become synonymous with Conway's Halloween celebrations.
These skeletal giants, however, require meticulous care and occasional repairs to maintain their imposing presence.
These volunteers have been meeting regularly to prepare the city for its seasonal rebranding.
The city's commitment to Halloween has grown exponentially since its inception.
What began as a modest display of pumpkins in trees has evolved into a month-long festival featuring over 200 events, including the Tunnel of Bones, a skeleton disco, and movie scenes set up around town.
This dedication has not only enriched the community's cultural fabric but also provided a significant boost to local businesses.
In 2022, downtown Conway saw a 100,000 increase in visitors during October compared to 2017, with some businesses experiencing an 18% increase in sales.
As the city gears up for another spooktacular season, the collaborative spirit of volunteers like Tracy Bush and the unwavering support of the community ensure that Conway's Halloween celebrations will continue to captivate and inspire.
