Myrtle Beach Golf Courses Reopen After Winter Storm Gianna

Grand Strand Courses Resume Play Following Snowstorm Closures

Myrtle Beach golf courses are reopening after Winter Storm Gianna blanketed the area with approximately 6 inches of snow over the weekend. The storm forced closures across the Grand Strand, but as conditions improve, courses are welcoming golfers back.

Several courses, particularly in Pawleys Island, reopened Tuesday afternoon. These include River Club, Tradition Club, Willbrook Plantation, Litchfield Country Club, and Founders Club at Pawleys Island. Legends Golf Resort's Heathland, Moorland, and Parkland courses, along with Heritage Club, also resumed operations. Whispering Pines Golf Club and The Aero Club Short Course, both near Myrtle Beach International Airport, reopened Tuesday as well.

The snowstorm marked the second consecutive January that courses faced week-long closures due to winter weather, posing challenges to the Bermudagrass prevalent on area greens. To mitigate potential damage, many courses utilized protective tarps over their greens, a practice adopted since 2018 to prevent winterkill.
