Myrtle Beach Poised to Host FIFA World Cup 2026 Training Camps |
Coastal Carolina University's Soccer Complex and local amenities attract FIFA's attention |
The Myrtle Beach area has been identified as a potential training site for teams participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
FIFA has recognized the Coastal Carolina University (CCU) Soccer Complex and the Ellie Beach Resort Myrtle Beach, Tapestry by Hilton as suitable facilities to host a World Cup team.
As of July 2025, FIFA has listed 62 potential "base camp" options, serving as training and accommodation hubs for tournament teams.
The collaboration between Visit Myrtle Beach and CCU has been instrumental in positioning the area as a contender.
The facility, home to both the Chanticleers’ men’s and women’s teams, features a new playing surface, bleacher seating, stadium lights, team game-day facilities, restrooms, and concessions.
Teams are expected to select their camps after the final draw in December 2025, which will determine World Cup match locations.
Once match locations are settled, teams can choose camps that make sense geographically and logistically.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is scheduled to be held across 16 host cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
In addition to the soccer complex, CCU unveiled a state-of-the-art Indoor Practice Facility in June 2025.
The $20 million, 90,000-square-foot structure includes a full-size synthetic teal turf field, a training room, video recording platforms, a coaches’ tower, restrooms, and storage areas.
While primarily supporting CCU’s intercollegiate athletic programs, the facility is also utilized for commencement staging, club and intramural sports, and various campus and community events.
The combination of top-tier facilities and Myrtle Beach's renowned hospitality positions the area as an attractive option for World Cup teams seeking optimal training environments.
