Myrtle Beach Fire Department Hosts Fundraisers for Early Cancer Screening

Community Events Aim to Support Firefighters and Families

The Myrtle Beach Fire Department is organizing a series of fundraisers this October to support early cancer screening for firefighters and their families.

These events will take place at Tidal Creek Brewhouse in Market Common on October 13, 20, and 27.

Each date features unique activities: musical bingo on the 13th, a cornhole tournament on the 20th, and a Trunk or Treat event on the 27th.

According to the International Association of Firefighters, cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty deaths among firefighters.

These fundraisers aim to raise money for early cancer screenings and strengthen community ties.

Early detection is crucial in combating cancer among firefighters.

Captain Jonathan Evans of the Myrtle Beach Fire Department emphasized the importance of these screenings, noting that the department has had seven members battle cancer, all of whom are now doing well thanks to early detection.

Evans also highlighted the goal of building personal connections with the community through these events.

Residents are encouraged to participate and support their local firefighters in this vital cause.
