5 Star Fabulous

Derrick Law Firm

This issue, we're highlighting not a 5 star fabulous business, but a 5,000 5 star fabulous business!

You've no doubt seen one of their billboards.

Starting with one primary office in Conway, Derrick Law Firm has grown to be one of the premier law firms with ten offices South Carolina

One thing that sets them apart from other practices, is their jury research and focus groups. If you've ever seen the the television show 'Bull', it's kind of like that.

Residents of South Carolina take a survey to determine what mock trial that the firm thinks that they would be a good fit for.

They hear facts of a real case from both sides presented to them, and then they deliberate and give feedback to the attorneys. What they thought was good, and what was lacking.

The two main places to participate is in Conway and Myrtle Beach offices, but you can participate at one of their other locations.

You can even participate virtually.

They are paid $25/hour to participate, along with dinner.

In order to be considered, you need to take a survey. This will give them some ideas on your demographics, and what people believe in. This information can be used for upcoming cases.

Primarily focus of Derrick Law Firm is personal injury. Auto accidents, boat/Jet Ski, delayed or denied insurance claims, nursing home abuse and neglect, traumatic brain injuries, workers comp and wrongful death are some of the things that they might be able to help you with.

Surfside Beach will mark the end of summer with a lively festival on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Surfside Beach Fishing Pier.

The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. with energetic beach music from The Catalinas, a colorful Hawaiian hula show, and a wide range of food and craft vendors.

Families can look forward to a dedicated kids’ zone with a bounce house, water slide, face painting, and an exciting foam zone.

Mayor Robert Krouse expressed excitement about bringing fireworks back to the pier for the first time in nine years, highlighting the festival as a true celebration of community and a warm invitation to visitors.

The spectacular fireworks show is set for 9 p.m., enhanced by strong local support and a free shuttle service for attendees.

With careful budgeting and safety planning, residents and guests are welcome to join in Surfside Beach’s joyful farewell to summer.

The Grand Strand Humane Society in Myrtle Beach is facing a surge in surrendered animals, heightened by people falsely claiming their pets are strays.

Executive Director Jess Wnuk warns these actions stretch resources thin and disrupt daily operations.

The shelter currently cares for 114 dogs and over 200 cats, serving only the Myrtle Beach area as nearby towns run their own shelters.

To combat overcrowding, adoption fees will be waived in September to inspire more local families to adopt or foster.

Online applications are open for those wanting to give pets a home or offer support.

After being displaced by a pest infestation in 2021, GSHS operates across temporary sites as plans for a new Piedmont Avenue facility move forward.

Construction costs have risen to $10–11 million, with groundbreaking expected in 2025 and completion slated for early 2026.

Community involvement is crucial to help care for these animals during this challenging time.

The FDA has issued an urgent warning for certain Great Value frozen shrimp sold at Walmart stores in thirteen states, including Texas, Florida, and Pennsylvania.

These products, processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati of Indonesia, may be contaminated with radioactive Cesium-137, a substance linked to increased cancer risk with long-term exposure.

The affected shrimp bear lot codes 8005540-1, 8005538-1, or 8005539-1, all with a best-by date of 03/15/2027.

Customers are advised to immediately discard these items and avoid eating them.

FDA testing at major U.S. ports confirmed Cesium-137 in shipments, prompting a recall recommendation to Walmart and ongoing investigation with U.S. and Indonesian authorities.

Anyone concerned about exposure should consult their healthcare provider.

Meet Francis

Francis is an 8-year-old gentleman (as of Aug 2025) with a heart full of love to give. He’s friendly, kind, and easygoingβ€”the kind of dog who just wants a person to share life’s simple joys with.

Francis enjoys leisurely walks and absolutely loves strolling around the playground, taking in all the sights and sounds. He’s not demanding, just grateful for companionship and a cozy place to call home.

This sweet boy is ready to spend his golden years by your side, offering loyalty, love, and plenty of tail wags. If you’re looking for a gentle companion who will adore you forever, Francis is your guy.
Because he is a senior, he qualifies for our senior to senior program, which allows free adoptions for pets, at least 6 years old to approved adopters, who are at least 60 years old.

If you are interested in adopting or meeting any of our animals available for adoption please FILL OUT AN ONLINE ADOPTION APPLICATION ON OUR WEBSITE FIRST. Due to the volume of interest in our animals and the convenience we now offer of applying online for adoption, we may not be able to reply to messages sent through our Petfinder page.
