Because it's the only way to politely tell someone they're an idiot.

Local Business Spotlight

Tidal Paws Animal Rescue

Tidal Paws is a foster-based animal rescue founded in January by Jennifer Moreno, her husband Frank, and their partner, Tiffany Strange.

A teacher and a New York native, Moreno moved to the area 10 years ago and was inspired to start the rescue by her daughter, who is now 13.

Tidal Paws aims to provide a voice to local "fur babies." The organization saves dogs from euthanasia lists at area shelters and also takes in owner surrenders.

A key focus for the rescue is making sure all animals are fully vetted, spayed or neutered, and microchipped before being placed in a foster home. The organization will even spay or neuter a pet at no cost to an owner who surrenders a litter of puppies.

This practice, inspired by Bob Barker's famous plea, helps control the unwanted pet population.

The rescue also rehabilitates dogs with expensive illnesses like parvo or coccidia that are often overlooked by other shelters. Tidal Paws relies heavily on its foster network and donations, often putting out calls on its Facebook page for specific cases. Its adoption fees also go directly back into caring for the animals.

What sets Tidal Paws apart is its commitment to transparency and communication. The rescue is a small, family-oriented operation that knows its supporters by name. As an example of its dedication, Moreno recounted a time they raised $3,500 for a dog needing a $7,000 surgery. When a local vet determined the dog didn't need the surgery, Tidal Paws offered to refund the donations.

For now, Tidal Paws is focused solely on dogs. The organization is working to open a facility in the coming months, but for now, they are only able to take in animals for which they have a foster home available. Interested fosters and donors can connect with Tidal Paws on its Facebook page, Tidal Paws Animal Rescue

August 31st is National South Carolina Day

Area News...

Surfside Beach will mark the end of summer with a lively festival on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at the Surfside Beach Fishing Pier.

The celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. with energetic beach music from The Catalinas, a colorful Hawaiian hula show, and a wide range of food and craft vendors.

Families can look forward to a dedicated kids’ zone with a bounce house, water slide, face painting, and an exciting foam zone.

Mayor Robert Krouse expressed excitement about bringing fireworks back to the pier for the first time in nine years, highlighting the festival as a true celebration of community and a warm invitation to visitors.

The spectacular fireworks show is set for 9 p.m., enhanced by strong local support and a free shuttle service for attendees.

With careful budgeting and safety planning, residents and guests are welcome to join in Surfside Beach’s joyful farewell to summer.

A major new venue is set to elevate Myrtle Beach’s sports scene with the upcoming Dink District pickleball facility, opening in 2026.

This climate-controlled, 40,000-square-foot complex will be located at 200 Ronald McNair Boulevard in Carolina Forest, offering 14 professional courts and amenities like a pro shop, player lounge, and full-service locker rooms.

A championship court designed for tournaments and special events promises to boost Myrtle Beach’s reputation as a sports hotspot.

The Dink District will serve all skill levels through flexible membership and walk-in play, alongside reserved courts, classes, and league play.

This venture is led by Dr. Ron K. Reynolds, a local business and healthcare leader, and his son Kerry Reynolds, a certified teaching pro and accomplished competitor.

With construction yet to start, excitement is building as pickleball’s popularity soars, positioning Dink District as a year-round destination for local enthusiasts.

Meet Willow.

11-month-old female Siberian Husky.

When considering a new furry family member, the Siberian Husky is a breed that often captures attention with its striking looks and friendly demeanor. Beyond their beautiful, often blue, eyes and thick coats lies a personality that can be a perfect match for the right home.

Siberian Huskies are known for being incredibly friendly and sociable. They thrive on companionship and are generally good-natured, outgoing, and affectionate with their families. Their gentle temperament also makes them wonderful with children and other dogs. Despite their wolf-like appearance, they're not natural guard dogs; their friendly disposition means they're likely to welcome strangers with a wagging tail rather than a warning growl.

These dogs are also remarkably intelligent and energetic. Originally bred for endurance and hauling sleds, they have a high energy level and a playful spirit. A husky isn't content to be a couch potato. They thrive on both physical activity and mental stimulation, making them ideal companions for active people who enjoy activities like running, hiking, and jogging.

Finally, Siberian Huskies are surprisingly clean and odorless. Unlike many other breeds, they have very little "doggy" odor. They are meticulous groomers, often keeping themselves tidy, which can be a pleasant bonus for owners who are concerned about cleanliness. This combination of traits makes the Siberian Husky a loving and lively addition to a family prepared to meet their needs.
